Give an agent the file, get the file back

Agents read PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and more: picked each run or pinned. And an agent can hand back the edited file itself, design intact, your original never touched.

Point an agent at a file

Every format you actually get sent, read locally and free. Khint checks content, not extensions, so a mislabeled file still resolves. Your agents do the rest. Built on Agents →

Ask me each run

The palette asks for the file before anything runs.

  • Drop zone, your recent files, or browse.
  • The picker is free: cancel and nothing is billed.
  • The palette shows where the agent's input comes from.
  • Right for agents like summarise this PDF: the next file, every time.
02

Or pin one file

The agent always reads the same document.

  • Pick or drop the file once in the agent editor.
  • Small files are read in full; big ones are condensed once so runs stay fast.
  • When the file changes, the summary refreshes on the next run.
  • Right for a living spec or glossary the agent should always know.

Workflows start here too

A chain's trigger can be a document.

  • Same two modes as an agent: ask each run, or a pinned file.
  • The steps run on what the document says.
  • The last step can write: the minutes become the tickets.
  • Cancelling the file pick cancels the run, nothing half-done.

The edited file, back

Pick “The edited file” in the agent editor and the same Word document, slide deck, spreadsheet or PDF comes back rewritten: same styles, same headings, same slides, same images. Your original is never touched; the result is saved as a new file.

Honest with your files

You see every change before you keep it, and Khint refuses to guess.

Preview every change

A preview window highlights exactly which paragraphs changed before you download the result or reveal it in Finder. Edited files stay reachable from your history.

Flagged, never faked

On a PDF, anything that can't be reproduced faithfully: text that won't fit, a background it can't match, a character it can't draw, is flagged in the preview instead of quietly faked.

Refuses stale writes

If the file changed while the agent was working, Khint refuses to write rather than edit the wrong paragraphs.

Costs shown up front

Reading is local and free. A heavy edit shows a credit estimate in the palette: Edit document · ~4 credits, before it runs.

Common questions about documents

What file types can a Khint agent read?

PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OpenDocument, EPUB, RTF, and any plain-text or code file. Images: screenshots, photos, scans, are read with the same OCR that powers Capture. Khint checks the content, not just the extension, so a PDF named .txt or a file with no extension still resolves.

How does an agent get its document?

Two modes, chosen per agent. Ask me each run: the palette opens a picker with a drop zone, your recent files, and browse, before anything runs. Or pin one file to the agent so it always reads that file. Picking is free: cancelling the picker never costs a run.

Can a workflow start from a document?

Yes. A workflow's trigger can be a document, with the same two modes as an agent: ask each run or a pinned file. That closes the loop on things like meeting minutes: the PDF goes in, the steps run, and the last step can file the tickets.

Can AI edit a Word document without destroying the formatting?

Yes, and that's the point. Set an agent to return the edited file and a Word document, slide deck, spreadsheet or PDF comes back rewritten with its design intact: same styles, same headings, same slides, same images. Khint rewrites only the text; the structure is preserved by construction, so the model can propose words but can never corrupt the file.

Does it overwrite my original file?

Never. The original is not even opened for writing. The result is saved as a new file, and a preview shows exactly which paragraphs changed before you download it or reveal it in Finder. Edited documents also stay reachable from your Home history, with Download and Reveal right on the row.

What about PDFs?

PDF edits are painted in place, and Khint is honest about the hard cases: text that can't fit its box, a background it can't match, a character it can't draw, all of it is flagged in the preview rather than quietly faked. And if the file changed on disk while the agent was working, Khint refuses to write rather than edit the wrong paragraphs.

What does working on documents cost?

Reading a document is local and free for every text format; images go through OCR like a capture. Large files are condensed once so runs stay fast, small files are read in full. Heavy edits show a credit estimate in the palette, like Edit document · ~4 credits, before you run, so nothing surprises you.
